[UPDATE - Initial Review] Just bought the Cobb Accessport and Intake!
OP FUCKING DELIVERS
So the accessport and intake came today. Here's my initial review.
For comparison to anyone else. My pre-cobb car: 2013 GTI 4dr, DSG, Borla catback.
Accessport Install
Cake. Seriously. It's a bit nerveracking as the FIRST tune install takes ~5 mins and your mind is about 90% sure it's going to fail and ruin your car. NOTE: When you first start the car after a tune change the car sputters a bit for a couple seconds. Seems like the computer is re-calculating some stuff to account for the new tune. It's only on the first start, so nothing to be alarmed about I don't think. No need to go into this much more.
Stage 1 Tune
You can definitely feel the extra power and it pulls much harder. Can break lose in second gear through almost the entire power band. Intake and BOV are still pretty quiet on the stock intake. I didn't figure out how to use the accessport gauges until Stage 1+ so boost specs.
Intake Install
tl;dr; Fuck my life. I tore my hand open 5 times on literally everything.
This was rough. Took me about an hour and a half compared to 30 mins on my Pathfinder.
Pro-tips:
-
Don't lose the screws for the stock intake. You need a few.
-
Get the intake end of the silicone boot on AS FAR AS IT WILL GO before you put it on the turbo inlet. If not, the silicone boot will kink and you'll need to remove it all then try again. With that said, after install make sure the boot isn't kinked, it will restrict air flow.
-
Tighten the airbox tray screw down AFTER you mount the intake tube to it or you'll need to force the tube into the holes on the air box.
-
The washers for the air box top go between the top and tray, I don't car what the picture says. They look ugly on the outside.
-
The CBFA instructions come AFTER the CCTA ones on the website. This is important. Trust me.
-
Go buy torx bits now. T20 Security, T25, and T30.
Stage 1+ Tune
Changing tunes after the first install is quick and is installed in about a minute.
Oh dear. With the intake on, the turbo noise and BOV are very pronounced. Stage 1+ unlocks this car and makes it fucking nasty. A LOT more power, breaking lose all over the place. I feel like I'm sucked into my seat because it pulls so hard. The accessport recorded max boost of 29.5psi just in my neighborhood. I'm not sure if that is accurate, but it scares me none-the-less. I'm thinking about tuning down to Stage 1 as a daily driver.
tl;dr - Go buy this. Now.
